Langdons’ AI Chatbot Experience: A Leadership Learning Journey

Langdons Logo 3

Langdons is a leading UK-based logistics company, specialising in temperature-controlled distribution. As part of the STEF Group — Europe’s leading cold logistics provider — Langdons operates a nationwide network, delivering chilled and frozen goods efficiently and reliably. Ultimately, Langdons is committed to high standards of service, compliance, and professional development.

Around the beginning of the year, Video Arts began rolling out an AI chatbot experience to enhance the effectiveness of our eLearning content. Langdons was one of the first organisations to raise a hand and say, ‘We’ll have a go’. While many of our clients have long enjoyed our signature blend of humorous video learning, committed client support and flexible choice of delivery methods, we’ve recently been embedding chatbots across our collections to provide an even more personalised and engaging learning experience. We now have over 50 active chatbots, each tailored to a specific learning topic and designed to drive deeper learning through conversational interaction.

As Langdons begin to embed the chatbot into their leadership development strategy, we have the privilege of hearing how things are going.

Here’s what they had to say.

What was the challenge that your business faced?

Langdons already had a strong learning and development offering, supporting a diverse workforce that includes goods vehicle drivers, warehouse operatives, office staff and workshop technicians. Their blend of third-party content and in-house material covered the compliance essentials and was accredited by the likes of DVSA, Ofqual, RTITB and IOSH.

But leadership development was a different story.

Langdons noted that their leadership training could sometimes feel “inflexible — particularly when it comes to the development of Managers, Supervisors, and Leaders of people.” Engagement in these programmes was often inconsistent. Leaders were frequently promoted from within based on length of service or operational performance. Still, not all came equipped with the necessary skills, behaviours or confidence to thrive in their new roles.

The challenge, then, was to find a solution that would not only address these gaps but also fit into the reality of a busy, growing business. Something accessible. Something flexible. And ideally, something that didn’t rely too heavily on busy internal teams.

What was the solution provided by Video Arts?

Langdons explored a few options — but ultimately, they chose Video Arts’ AI chatbot experience.

We were looking for a solution specifically tailored to support the development of our senior managers and leaders, and Video Arts’ chatbot offering stood out.”

Our chatbots are designed to feel more like a coaching conversation than a compliance module. They engage the learner in a text-based dialogue, adjusting in real time to their responses, attitude, and confidence. The goal? To validate good practice, challenge unhelpful thinking, and nudge behaviour in the right direction without the need for a scheduled session or a facilitator.

Langdons highlighted several benefits of this approach:

  • On-demand availability provides 24/7 access
  • Personalised interaction enables the chatbot to tailor content
  • Fostering self-directed learning in a confidential, low-pressure environment
  • Increased agility, leadership confidence
  • And the very welcome potential for long-term cost efficiencies

It also helped that the chatbot format aligned closely with their soon-to-launch 6 Pillars Leadership Model, which encompasses 6 core points of Leadership: 1. People Care, 2. Responsibility 3. Customer Focus 4. Entrepreneurship 5. Agility 6. Collaboration.

What was the outcome?

While the chatbot rollout at Langdons is still in its early stages, the feedback so far has been positive.  They described the tool as offering “a modern solution to leadership development” and recognised its potential to boost engagement and create “a safe and supportive learning environment where leaders can build confidence and competence at their own pace.”

They also appreciated that the tool could reduce the burden on internal L&D teams, and that it naturally encouraged a more self-driven approach to learning, which is particularly helpful in leadership roles where reflection and authenticity matter.

That said, Langdons did highlight a few considerations, including the importance of using the chatbot effectively, the potential limitations of text-only interaction and AI anxiety.

To ensure the chatbot is used effectively, your account manager will provide solid support. These dedicated relationships help ensure the tool is implemented with clear guidance, learner communication, and follow-up strategies that drive real results.

For those who find typing a barrier, we are already collaborating with our development partner GenLearn on new versions of the chatbot that include speech-based interaction. This will open the door for a wider range of learners to engage with the tool in a way that suits them.

As for concerns about data and digital safety, we fully support and share Langdons’ commitment to protecting user privacy. The chatbot is GDPR compliant and designed with data protection at its core. No personal data is stored or shared, and learners can engage with confidence. We also recognise that some employees may feel uncertain about using AI tools. To support this, we have created several resources directly addressing the concerns surrounding AI, such as a recent podcast featuring the co-founder of GenLearn, Sarah Mateljan, where we explore the myths and realities of AI in learning and development.

How has Video Arts’ approach to your learning evolved?

The support we’ve received from Video Arts has been outstanding…”

From ongoing usage reports and tailored content suggestions, to branded comms materials and practical implementation guidance, Langdons described the partnership as collaborative and easy to work with.

They were especially complimentary about one of our lovely Account Managers:

Ange is incredibly friendly and helpful, making the partnership feel seamless and very enjoyable.”

Why would you recommend working with Video Arts?

The biggest reason to choose Video Arts is without a doubt the quality of their content…”

They highlighted the use of professional actors, the entertaining delivery style, and how memorable the learning becomes as a result. As they put it: “It’s hard not to absorb the information.”

They also credited the ongoing support and the willingness to collaborate as key reasons for choosing us over other providers.

So, while the chatbot journey is still unfolding, Langdons’ early experience tells us we’re on the right track. Leadership development is changing, and with the help of a few well-timed digital conversations, it’s becoming more personalised, accessible, and genuinely engaging.

We’re excited to continue this partnership and can’t wait to see what insights come next.
