    The aim

To bring first-line managers and team leaders quickly up to speed with the expected roles and responsibilities of front-line management.

    About the programme

First in line (second edition) is a total resource for training people as front-line managers. It is comprehensive, providing: a conceptual overview of every aspect of the manager's role; training in essential personal and interpersonal skills; and introducing topics that may be unfamiliar to inexperienced managers, such as budgeting and cost control or employment law.

The kit includes three programmes - a case study of the role of the manager, a review of the case study's learning points, and the incident file containing 38 practical situations that first-line managers may encounter.

It's also flexible, and suitable for immediate or long-term training needs. Twenty raining units explore key management skills, from organisation, problem solving and motivation, to meetings, delegation and discipline. There's a choice for the specific people being trained at specific times, and a trainer's guide on the best way to use the materials.

Two resource binders contain other items that enable trainers to host a single refresher session or create workable, long-term training packages covering all management skills. These include exercises, case studies, projects and role-plays; over forty key point summaries; a pre-course questionnaire to assess training needs; and PowerPoint slides.
