Overview
The aim
To give managers the skills to guide and encourage their teams towards greater performance.
About the programme
Managers play an important part in the way their teams learn. This programme shows how managers can use coaching to teach practical tasks and interpersonal skills to the people who work for them.
In comparing the way a manager leads his teams at work with how he captains a football team, it clearly illustrates the types of skills that he needs to develop.
His role is broken down into five practical steps to form a helpful mnemonic: STEER. Managers should Spot opportunities; Tailor training to suit the individual; Explain and demonstrate; Encourage; and Review progress.
The messages are targeted at: newcomers, to help them understand this important aspect of their role; experienced managers, to build a more productive, empowered team; and as a practical framework for anyone whose job involves coaching a group or one-to-one instruction.
The key outcomes
-Improve managerial skills
-Empower your team and re-motivate them to succeed
